Pamela's possibility portrait

See www.innervisionportraits.com for more.

Gouache and acrylic self-portrait on watercolor paper.

The upper right circle is based on a Matisse painting; it represents the freedom, joy, and connection with others and my Self that I experience while dancing.

The upper left circle is from a lucid dream years ago: while flying, rays of light suddenly shot out to the horizon and I realized I had the power to go anywhere and be with anyone I loved: the simultaneous possibility of freedom and connection.

The lower right circle shows the tree-worship religion I invented with my siblings as a child, and my connection to Spirit and joy in nature.

The lower left circle shows the Tuscan landscape I’ve felt connected to since childhood.

The top purple band symbolizes music and art, sources of joy and connection for me, and increasingly of freedom too; the bottom purple band (also based on a long-ago dream) is about spontaneity and playfulness, important parts of freedom and joy. The left and right purple bands show samples of languages I made up as a young teen: early examples of the joy and freedom I experience in connecting to my creativity.

And the heart at the top of the arch reminds me that connection, freedom, and joy are possible whenever (and only when) I open my heart.
