Possibility snapshot of J., age 8
Colored pencil, archival ink, and gold pen on drawing paper, 6" x 8". "Possibility snapshots" are done every year or two to record a child’s inner as well as outer development. See www.innervisionportraits.com.
J. stands in front of an exciting background scene from his imagination – it shows him in a pirate ship, and also an underwater ship that is coming after the pirate ship.
The yellow medallion at the top holds his dad, who’s serving in Iraq; J. wanted his dad in the picture, and it’s clear he admires his dad and misses him.
The lower left blue medallion shows J. playing with his legos. He loves playing with legos because he “feels like a god to the little people” when he makes a building or ship for them, and then – god-like– he can destroy it and build something else. He wants to be an architect when he grows up…
The purple medallion shows a magic broomstick and wand from Harry Potter. J. likes wizards and Harry Potter and books – all symbols of power, and the power of the imagination.
The words that frame the picture are J’s possibilities at age 8: the qualities he embodies when he’s being his best self. They are also what he can make available to himself and others at any time — the light in him that wants to shine.
